Freedom has always mattered deeply to me. The freedom to choose my own path, to go somewhere new, to challenge myself, and every now and then, to step outside my comfort zone. Maybe that is why Bátor Tábor has had such a special place in my heart for more than 15 years. The children who come here are true heroes. When you are seriously ill, so many choices are suddenly made for you. Where you can go. What you can do. What your days look like. At Bátor Tábor, children get some of that freedom back. Here, they can simply be children again. They can laugh, play, make friends, try things they never thought they could do, and experience one of the most powerful feelings there is “I can do this.” This year, alongside donating, I decided to set myself a challenge too. Three months ago, I started running. It was completely outside my comfort zone. But I kept going, put in the work, and somewhere along the way, something changed. Running stopped being something that controlled me, and I started to feel that I was in control of it. I still only measure myself against myself. But, in true Bátor Tábor spirit, I discovered something rather wonderful "I can do this". And it makes me happy. On 11 October, my team and I will run a marathon relay. Four of us, sharing the 42 kilometres. Because there are things we can do together that we could never do alone. And that is why I am writing this. I believe that illness should never be allowed to define a child’s life. Every child deserves the freedom to try, to dream big, to laugh, to make friends and to discover that they are capable of far more than they ever imagined. So this time, I’m asking you to join us. It could be the price of a coffee. The price of breakfast. Or, if you can, a little more. Because when enough of us give a little, together we can give these children something much bigger. The chance to feel brave. The chance to feel free. And the chance to say “I can do this too.” Please help us give them that chance.
