We spend your donation to give back the childhood of seriously and chronically ill children with the help of our method, the therapeutic recreation.
A few months ago three friends and I decided to join the 28th SPAR Budapest International Marathon as charity runners. Our goal is to spread the word about an organization and the work they do by representing them during our preparation and the run. This organization is called Bátor Tábor. It is a camp in Hungary, where complex therapeutic recreation programs are offered to children with cancer, diabetes, JRA or haemophilia and to their families. This campsite was established in 2001 and now, thanks to the hard work of the foundation, it has the capacity to host more than 750 children every year. The volunteers working here (us) are trained to provide a special and safe environment for the kids, where the only thing they have to worry about is having as much fun as they possibly can. It is a joint effort of doctors, nurses, psychologists and us, trained volunteers (so called Cimboras) to make sure that everything goes as planned and that the children’s needs are met. The goal of this method, called therapeutic recreation, is to make our campers discover their own possibilities (instead of their limits) and to increase their confidence and self-esteem. The positive effects have proven to be beneficial to the children’s physical recovery. This camp is the regional therapeutic recreation centre of Central European children, making the adventures available not only for Hungarian but for Slovakian, Czech and Polish children as well. That is how I became part of this venture during the summer of 2012, when I first participated in this fantastic adventure as an escort/translator Cimbora for Czech children in an international summer session. Since then I’ve been to three camps already. To one Hungarian and two international camp sessions, all of which I deeply enjoyed. I feel extremely lucky that I’ve had the chance of becoming a part of this project. That I’ve had the opportunity to get to know these people, the work they do and the way they do it. To be with and learn from all the children and other volunteers involved in this wonder. The goal of our charity run is to raise 200 000 Forints (approximately 20 000 Kč, or 670 Eur) for the Bátor Tábor foundation. The reason is simple; every one of us is deeply committed to the cause I’ve been writing about, therefore we would like to do our best to support this matter. Every single penny is very much appreciated and so we would be extremely glad if you decided to support us. Even if you decide not to do so, thank you for taking the time to read about us.
