Fortune Favors the Bold Seven years ago, I began volunteering at a place that has since provided a transformative and character-building experience every single time I step through the gates of Bátor Tábor camp in Hatvan. I love knowing that what I do at the camp contributes to something meaningful, and I love knowing that as I am doing my laps throughout the next two months, I’ll be making the world a little brighter. That is why on June 20th, I will be swimming 4,500 meters at the 4th MOL Öbölátúszás in Budapest. Why am I doing this? I am doing it because I’m inspired by the kids I’ve spent time with during summer sessions. Despite the shadow of their illnesses, they remain mischievous, they make connections with raw honesty, and they are incredibly courageous. I am doing it because I look up to the families in our family sessions - the little ones, the grown-ups, the siblings - who experience something extraordinary together. Seeing the liberation they feel when they take on a dress-up challenge together is unforgettable. I am doing it because I think every day of our campers from the Lélekmadár sessions who have lost a loved one. They persevere alongside us, and despite experiencing every ounce of pain, they find the strength to feel joy again, live in the moment, and find beauty in life. What am I doing? Over the next 50 days, I will do everything in my power to prepare for this race. I have successfully swum across Lake Balaton once before, and now I’m heading to the starting line again - in Budapest. I will be swimming at least three to four times a week, gradually increasing my distance so that on June 20th, I’ll be ready on the banks of the Danube. My goal is a mix of breaststroke and freestyle. Why support me? Support me so that together, we can support chronically ill children, their families, and those who have lost a child.
